| Lauhala (pandanus) or raufara (as it is known in Tahiti) |
|
is one of the most used and
versatile source of weaving materials in Polynesia. Since ancient times,
these islanders have made an art of weaving.
The woven lauhala mats are made by artisans in the outer islands of French Polynesia. Hours upon hours are needed for each mat to be completed. The attention to detail and fine finish to the borders sets these mats apart and the fine craftsmanship in working with a 3/8" is not seen in mass production.
The ambience that the lauhala mat creates in island homes is unmistakable. The softness of the texture and the subtle pattern creates a feeling of welcome.
Lauhala mat is available in multiple sizes. Round or Oval.
